Nonprofit Management Certificate
USF Lakeland is offering the following non-credit, short-term learning opportunities for nonprofit employees who wish to further their education and skills as well as those wishing to enter the nonprofit field. To earn the nonprofit management certificate you must complete the following four courses. Students who enroll in individual courses will receive a certificate for that course.

Gain the skills you need to meet today’s challenges in building your nonprofit agency!

  • Learn the operation of boards and committees

  • Learn the fundamentals of nonprofit financial management

  • Learn program planning and how-to’s for program design

  • Learn effective strategies for grant writing

A nonprofit organization’s role is to support and actively engage in activities of public or private interest in our communities. Crucial to the success of any nonprofit organization are the knowledge, tools, and skills needed to grow in an ever-changing environment.




Nonprofit Financial Management
- February 15, 2008, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm

Learn how to perform a strategic plan that would include the financial budget for the organization. The course will include the importance of the non-profit corporate structure. This course will also provide information on bookkeeping, information and reporting, and management operation of your nonprofit. The financial plan and budget goes beyond paper into reality. Leadership and Governance for Nonprofits - March 14, 2008, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm

The success of many nonprofits is directly related to the effectiveness of their boards of directors and an understanding of the roles between the policy making and governing responsibilities of the board and the operational responsibilities of the executive staff.  This session establishes the framework under which nonprofit boards, committees and staff successfully operate, including legal, fiduciary and community roles to create the environment for organization success. Program Development and Marketing - April 18, 2008, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm

To meet your organization’s mission and goals, you need effective programs. This course is designed to educate your organization on effective strategies that will deliver results. Whether you aim to modify existing programs or curriculums to meet unique needs of your target audience or develop new ones, this course will provide you with proven strategies that work. Grant Writing - May 16, 2008, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm

In the ever evolving world of grant writing, it is necessary to look at the process in totality. This course will assist participants in program planning, which is the foundation for any good grant proposal. In addition to program planning, participants will learn the fundamentals of program design, research based techniques and strategies for technical grant writing skills. The course will provide participants with a greater understanding of program evaluation and how to create an evaluation plan. Cost: $220.00 [Register]
