Overview
The
College of Engineering of the University of South Florida offers undergraduate
and graduate programs to prepare students for a broad spectrum of professional
careers in engineering. The undergraduate programs are designed to provide
students with a sense of human values and the scientific/technical foundation
necessary for a lifetime of continued learning.
The programs offered
by the College of Engineering are designed to meet the diverse requirements
of the future and cover the areas of professional engineering and applied
science. The engineering programs at the college have been developed
with an emphasis on three broad aspects of engineering activity: design,
research and the operation of complex, technological systems.
The USF
Lakeland campus offers junior-level courses common to all engineering
degree programs and all senior-level courses leading to the Bachelor
of Science in Industrial Engineering.
Degree Program
The
Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering (B.S.I.E.) degree can be
completed at USF Lakeland. There are 68 semester hours of upper level
courses in the curriculum. Classes are held in Lakeland, complemented
by courses delivered through distance education from the Tampa campus.
Some courses or academic experiences may require attending the Tampa
campus. The B.S.I.E. program prepares its graduates for design, evaluation
and operation of a range of industrial systems from the analysis of business
productivity to the detailed operation of manufacturing plants. Graduates
can expect widespread job opportunities competitive with other engineering
disciplines. Topics in the program include:
-
Manufacturing and Quality Assurance
- Robotics and Automation
- Production Planning and Control
- Simulation
- Production and Plant Design
- Human Factors and Productivity
- Operations Research
- Applied Statistics
Admissions Criteria
Students
planning to transfer to USF's Engineering program from a state of Florida
public community college should follow a pre-engineering program leading
to an Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree. The community college program
should include the prerequisites to upper level university coursework listed
in the Course
Track. For more information view the current USF undergraduate
catalogs on-line.
